About
I was brought up in Nowhere Creek near the small country town of Elmhurst in rural Victoria. My parents ran a mixed grazing farm in the valleys and hills of the Pyrenees Range. The majestic River Redgums and Yellow Box trees and contrasting colours of the farm's seasons and natural environment installed a love of country. As a child I always enjoyed art but sciences and other pursuits got in the way.
After a career in forestry in WA I begun painting parts of the natural environment. In some ways I think I have been painting in my mind for at least 40 years. How does one express the majesty of the WA South Coast , the karri forest or the colours and isolation of the Kimberley and Pilbura Regions?
5 years ago at the age of 59 an opportunity to paint came up at Liddlelow Homestead in Kenwick,WA. This was great fun under the tutoring of Lucia Moniewski. I am in debt to the environment and her encouragement to take on new challenges and techniques.
Of more recent times I have been a student of Jana Vodesil-Barruffi. Jana has introduced me to oils and making my colours from primary colours. She has also encouraged my propensity to be impressionist and in particular the introduction to painting with a pallet knife has been a revelation when it comes to artistic expression and movement.
I look forward to exploring the many opportunities and friendships art can nurture.
I will be artist in residence at Beverley WA for April and May 2019.
I am posting this blog to encourage others to express themselves through art and hopefully share a passion for art and painting.
Happy painting
